The Math Behind It
Overtime Value = (Salary ÷ Monthly Hours) × Premium (1.5x or 2x)The normal hourly rate is calculated by dividing the monthly salary by the monthly hours (weekly hours ÷ 6 × 30). Weekday overtime pays 50% extra, Sundays and holidays pay 100% extra. The night shift bonus is 20% on top of the normal hourly rate.
Example
With a R$ 3,000 salary and 44h/week schedule, the normal hourly rate is R$ 13.64. Working 10 overtime hours at 50%, you earn R$ 204.55 in additional pay.
Frequently Asked Questions
The CLT limits overtime to 2 hours per day, totaling roughly 44 overtime hours per month. Exceptions exist for professions regulated by collective agreements.
